James Li had only recently been transferred to the United States of America from his hometown in China. Though he was well versed with the American way of life, he still found it difficult to adjust to the new culture and environment. The first week seemed extremely taxing and stripped him off any confidnece in adjusting easly. He knew he was way out of his element.
During the second week of his he started looking for an apartment. His short stay in a hotel had been more than comfortable, yet he knew he had to get a place of his own. His company had suggested that he take the help of one Ms. Susan Lindi, a real estate agent. James did not feel an agent could help him much as his tastes differed from the Americans’.
After making an appointment with Susan's office who made arrangements to have a car pick him up from his hotel the next day and take him on a tour of different houses. Susan Lindi arrived five minutes before 10am the next morning. She was nothing of what he had imagined her to be. She was an elegant woman, about forty something years of age, smartly dressed and intelligent looking.
She approached him with a soft smile and introduced herself. As they got into her car the scent of her perfume spoke volumes of her character. Her choice of perfume defined her confidence, sophistication and elegance.
The first house they toured was a mansion of sorts, highly furnished and with bright colors. He couldn’t tell her that it did not suit his taste and he highly despised furnishings that crowed the place. However she seemed to understand. The next house was situated in the middle of town, slightly smaller than the previous one and was overly decorated. He didn’t have to tell her what he thought: his countenance spoke volumes.
“Ok so you are not going to tell me that you hate it but I get the picture. I am going to take you to another place now. Personally it is my favorite: the kind I have always thought was ideal. I am sure you would love it.” With these words she drove him to a suburb. And there it was a small beautifully built cottage of sorts, with a large garden. James loved the house. He moved into it the next week.
